Stranger Things 1.2
Stuff I like: Hopper making reasonable assumptions (Even if they're wrong) and generally being competent.
Dustin's LOOK after Lucas demonstrated a spit swear.
Mike doing his best to put Eleven at ease.
Joyce starting to turn all that freakout-adrenaline towards getting shit done.
I still think there's too much sex every damn where, but Nancy initiating things is a lot better than Steve being pushy.
Stranger Things 1.3 (1/2)
I've heard that it's customary in US productions to punish women for having sex, but punishing Nancy by killing Barb, who had been trying to talk her out of having sex, seems extra weird.
Jonathan making these photos was creepy, but, uh. Cameras like that are friggin' expensive, so for a first offense, that seems like overkill to me.
RE slingshot: Too long since I read IT; did the losers gang hit IT in the eye when they cornered IT in werewolf form?
Stranger Things 1.3 (2/3)
I really love Joyce. Because she trusts her own senses instead of what everybody knows and says. She's like Hiccup in the first HTTYD movie like that.
I mean, it would be tragic if she were hallucinating, but in the context of this story, she is right.
She's understandably freaked out, but she takes what she sees and finds out ways to make use of it. She's just awesome! :D
Stranger Things 1.4
It does Mike credit that despite being disappointed and angry because he thinks Eleven lied to him, he hasn't given her away to the cops or his parents, an still lets her hide with him.
I'm kinda conflicted about the whole cowboy-cop punching people in the face and breaking and entering thing. Possibly because sometimes *I* want to just punch people in the face and have it solve a problem. @_@
I'm really glad Jonathan has now reason to believe his mother is actually sane.
Stranger Things 1.5 (1/?)
The scene near the start, where Dr Brenner describes a new assignment to El and asks "Is that OK?" makes me wonder what would have happened if she'd said "no". Have they changed how they treat her, so she doesn't break anybody else's neck, or is it part of her being manipulated?
So Hopper is going to be Heroic and is prepared to die in the process, it seems like.
I mentioned alreadythat him going to Joyce's to look for bugs and seeing the lights everywhere is HILARIOUS
Stranger Things 1.5 (2/2)
Jonathan deciding to NOT tell his mother he has proof the faceless thing she saw is real is a really shitty thing to do. Generally, someone deciding to do something "for" someone without knowing if that someone wants it is... not good. I mean, I understand he does it because he thinks it's protecting her, but it's so patronising. :/
Also, what if he and Nancy get killed in the attempt?
Stranger Things 1.5 (3/2 :P)
I forgot mentioning, the thing with Nancy crawling into that tree, with Jonathan being out of sight. I can't quite decide how stupid that was.
She wasn't in the group that had figured out the parallel dimension thing, so she had no reason to expect a Rabbit Hole incident.
On the other hand, they were out there to look for an apparently people-eating monster that a minute ago dragged away a mostly dead deer with startling speed...
Stranger Things 1.6
Bits that I really like here are how Joyce concludes from the description of the drawing that the room Hopper has seen, it wasn't Will who drew it; and that Nancy hit the books reading up on predators trying to form some plausible theories. I like people being smart!
Also, "I cann bull on your logic! You're my best friend, too" "... okay :D"
I won't talk about Dr Brenner becaue I'd probably get angry.
Also, I am so, SO tired of bullies.
Stranger Things 1.7 (1/3)
Joyce says to Jonathan "This is not yours to fix ALONE." She doesn't dismiss him in a "you're my kid, it's MY job to fix this" kind of way, but implies they should have worked TOGETHER. 's a big thing in my mind.
I really like the pooling-knowledge-and-exercising-teamwork parts here. Everyone's contributing something :D
Stranger Things 1.7 (2/3)
Steve going "fuckit, I want to be a better person than this, and my 'friends' are dragging me down" is nice to see. I don't think I've seen it shown so explicitly on screen. Or at least usually it's the person in question telling the person they want to like them they will change? Ehwell.
