I suspect I will continue to not be on Facebook.
RT @flexlibris@twitter.com a friend sent me this: Facebook is now locking users out of account features, then demanding that those users "verify" their account to get back in by scanning an image of their face. AN IMAGE OF THEIR FACE.

@Daily What features?

Fridge question: doesn't Facebook have people's faces already?

@DialMforMara I imagine it's just the whole account.

Primary theory in the responses to that tweet are it might be about detecting fake accounts.

I mean, I'm pretty much fully inside the whole Google thing, so, y'know, but nothing about Facebook is enough to drag me into that particular hell.

@Daily they're also really obsessed with names. they ban trans people and demand they hand over verification of their names

@UberActivist Another great reason to stay very far away from that whole ecosystem!

@Daily Glad I've not touched an FB account in years, a sensation that grows daily

@Daily Crap. I've been on the edge of leaving FB for several days, but as an experiment I advertised my designs on it, (RedBubble) and immediately sold half a doz. items. Still... I think I could cultivate other sources.

@Daily Well... AirBnB is now doing the same... You can't continue booking process if you have not uploaded a photo of yourself πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

@Daily I mean at least they're not asking for our nude pics..oh wait
#facebook

@Daily Only reason I would comply with that is so I could reach the "permanently delete my account" button. That's utterly atrocious - and easily bypassed by bad actors who have had access to take their own picture of you, or saved a selfie, or anything like that. Completely ridiculous. I haven't even confirmed my phone number with them, or rather confirmed the number they think they have as mine is correct.

@Daily

Can you find a news article about this? First time I've heard mention of it.

@Daily what a hellish site! Reinforces why I rejected it all those years ago!

Does it ask you when you try the onion link ?
facebookcorewwwi.onion

@Daily
Oh I know. I wanted to test out the Facebook hidden service, and it locked my entire account and demanded to scan my driver's license. So I butchered it as best as possible and sent like a random selfie and my account is locked to this day and still says I will get back to you.

Rip my personal information. Whoever stays on Facebook is risking everything. Join the Revolution, come to mastodon or diaspora. Or go to www.privacytools.io and search up crowdsourced recommended social medias

@Daily god forbid a service requires verification to make sure you’re not spam

@tomey @hyper @Daily i was going to mention this. 😝 so ridiculous its unbelievable.

@Daily back in 2013 when I changed email addresses, they wanted a photo of my driver's license to confirm my ID. Needless to say, that was the last time I used FB.

@Daily
I can't believe this! Are they completely crazy now?

@Daily
Actually, I wonder why they are doing it. Most Facebook users already have photos with their face.

@Daily Facebook wanted me to send them a copy of my driver's license or passport to prove who I was. I have never been back to Facebook for more than 6 months now. Facebook is saying that it is a new captcha process to prove who you are and that you are not a bot. But it is just a stupid idea because it is too easy to pull random images off the net.

@Daily even when I did that they still locked my account! I took it as a sign and left Facebook forever.

@Daily My god, they must be collecting some sort of... book... of faces!

@Daily And yet people continue to use FB, even though it gets worse at every turn. Baffling.
