So something I notice about #NCIS vs. #CSI or #CriminalMinds, etc., is that there is no Lyn-crush options. Is this personal taste or a choice on their part?
I mean, not “Oh let’s foil Lyn,” but like “we don’t need eye candy.”
OTOH, I love Gibbs and the FBI guy Fornell talking about “our ex wife.” Makes ‘em sound like a slightly gay poly couple.
AND I love that Gibbs’ house was just a basement for the first 6 seasons.
@InspectorCaracal @aldersprig i mostly get crushes based on species, which is like appearance...
@chr @aldersprig I get them based on, like, personality archetypes. 😅
@InspectorCaracal @chr I think that’s def. part of it with TV characters. Like… Tough Guy with Soft Side. *cough*
Or Tough Tough Tough woman.
@InspectorCaracal @aldersprig That being considered normal was my understanding, from the way "love at first sight" is a thing in media, and also from the way I've seen people talk about their crushes.
... and now I'm not entirely sure if "crush" and "in love" are the same thing. yay language.
@Anke @aldersprig They are not! They're in the same spectrum of things, though, just a crush is like... less strong, mostly?
(I'm going on the use of "in love with" as "infatuated with" like is the common parlance, rather than delving into the Meaning of Love, since the latter is rather beside the point of the topic. 😅 )
@aldersprig @Anke in retrospect maybe they are the same thing, just like overlapping venn circles of intensity
@InspectorCaracal @aldersprig Doesn't "crush" also carry an implication of unrequited, or at least not-known-if-requited? Like, you can be "in love" with someone you're dating, but you wouldn't talk about having a crush on someone you're dating?
@Anke @aldersprig @InspectorCaracal yes! at least as far as i'm aware. crushing is what happens *before* you confess, or after you've confessed but gotten a no and haven't moved on yet.
@InspectorCaracal Yeah, the infauation thing was what I had in mind. Usually do with "being in love with", as opposed to "loving someone", which is less superficial and can be familiar, planotic etc.
@Anke gotcha :3 yeah they're the same
@Anke @InspectorCaracal For me, I use crush to be a subset of attraction, not love. “I find them interesting/attractive/want to see more of them.”
@InspectorCaracal appearance/behavior. I mean, shallow TV crushes, not like IRL crushes.
@aldersprig *blinks*
are they... different?
@InspectorCaracal For me? Definitely.
@aldersprig what's the difference?
@InspectorCaracal Hrrm, a tv crush is a lot shallower. An IRL crush is going to be -… only partially about appearance?
@aldersprig ahh I see! So your "tv crush" is my "aaa they're so pretty" XD
@InspectorCaracal oooooh! Okay. :-D
@aldersprig ...you get crushes based on appearance?
Wait, is that the way it usually works for people?
