speaking of #calendar nonsense, i know the calendar names are all messed up because of how long it took to figure out leap year nonsense, but i've been wondering...
is there an actual reason we have 11 30-or-31-day months and 1 28-day month, instead of 13 months total? 12 28-days and 1 29-day?that'd be so much easier to keep track of instead of the nursery rhyme nonsense for the current setup.
@katrani I am PRETTY sure that the 12 months specifically is because of math, like degrees and circles and stuff. Why they weren't all 30, though, I don't know.
@InspectorCaracal that much i'm pretty sure was because of how long it took to figure out leap years, but yeah i can totally buy it's the romans' fault
@katrani the french revolution saw the last major attempt to reorganize the calendar on grounds like that. Like many things they did (kg etc) ...it might have been a good idea, but their ideas of progress did not stop until the progressives who started the revolution lost their heads enough that changes like that all became suspect.
@katrani I think it's a political thing but I can't remember it offhand. Like, a Roman political thing.
