Contrast Scadriel, which is basically the UK with its permanent clouds and volcanoes pumping out ash that covers literally the entire ground, or the world Elantris is set on, which is what most people would consider habitable

There's a big point in Mistborn where it's decided that to appear important, they have to wear a white suit. Because of all the ash literally everywhere literally all the time, the amount of cleaning a white suit would require means not even the extremely wealthy bother
