but things like that (unnecessary interventions and other obstetric violence) are responsible for the growth of home births in the US. (Hospital bills are the other main reason >.>)

and like.... Idk. I get the appeal of home births but the potential risks also make me really queasy (if things go really wrong, can you actually make it to a hospital on time???)

basically we need better obgyn procedures and birthing facilities ASAP ;_;

@Heliodora @Anke Yeah, I was just talking to N about that... I sort of get why people here do home births now, but it is still pretty dangerous/risky because you definitely can't get to the hospital in time for a lot of potential complications.

@Anke @Heliodora But then if you go with the hospital in the first place, you have to be really picky about your doctor here and they still might force things on you or the child that will hurt either of you, or you might end up with a different person on the day of. And then they'll definitely charge you more than they said they would if you got them to say at all. It's all intimidating even if you're in pretty good economic circumstances.

it's all horrifying

here almost half of all births are elective cesareans. almost half! because it's "more convenient" and more profitable.

in private clinics cesareans are OVER 80% of all births (tbf it is in part because a lot of women are scared of vaginal delivery for... well actually I don't know why).

but yeah you literally have to fight to get a vaginal birth, and then deal with all the other excess interventions too ._.
