A writer-friend of mine, SL Huang (writes the amazing ZERO SUM GAME books about a female maths prodigy who uses maths to be a sharpshooter and general badass) is over in Japan too! It always sounds so lovely, though the language barrier must be tough.

@emaree Been here two and a half years now. I absolutely love living here, but there are definitely days that the culture differences and language barriers exhaust me. That's my main motivation for studying to improve my Japanese though, so it all works out. And either way, I'm not sure I can live in a country that doesn't have karaoke booths everywhere anymore!

@Neko omgosh, I have so much karaoke booth envy right now. Why isn't the whole world jumping on the karaoke booth bandwagon, dang it!

@emaree It's the best stress buster in the world. I have a bit of a cold at the moment, so I'm impatiently waiting for that to pass so I can get back in on the action. Those Disney songs won't sing themselves!

@Wsteria REALLY fun! I couldn't skate at all (I have terrible balance and posture) so I was very nervous, and I was slow to pick it up, but it's been really pushing me out of my comfort zone in a safe and fun way. It's also my only female-majority hobby and I'm loving the chance to make more awesome female friends!

@Wsteria It's really amazing how many people it suits, too... there's more plus-sized ladies in this sport than in anything else I've seen, and short ladies, tall ladies, slender ladies, all join in and bring different strengths and weaknesses. Also plenty of roles for people who don't like contact, or who don't want to skate at all but still want to help.
